Top 5 Thrift Stores in Greensboro

I love the hunt for an incredible find and the benefits of up cycling. But what I really love is when I find Greensboro stores that are locally run and aim to give back to our Triad community. So I’ve put together a list of my top 5 thrift stores in Greensboro in case you’re interested in joining me on my hunt for thrifting gems and giving back to our local community.

(Also, keep scrolling to see my most recent outfit of all second-hand clothing!)

5.
Blessingdales
I like Blessingdales because it’s tucked away, it’s quiet, and it’s never packed, unlike how some other traditional thrift stores are. Fun fact about Blessingdales, I made my biggest thrifting mistake here. I found a pair of Dior pumps here, but they weren’t in my size, so I didn’t even think twice and put them down. By the time I realized I might be able to resell them, I turned around and another lady had just picked them up and ended up buying them. Those shoes alone could have funded an entire year’s worth of thrifting runs…

Blessingdales is owned and operated by Greater Piedmont Adult & Teen Challenge, a residential discipleship program designed to help men who are overcoming drug addiction.

Pro Tip: If you happen to find a pair of Dior pumps, do not, I repeat, DO NOT put them down! Also, if you find them in a size 41, I’ll buy them from you :)

4. Goodwill

A classic. Coming from a family of 10 people, I’ve been shopping at Goodwill my whole life. One of my favorite things about Goodwill is that they’re literally everywhere! However, I definitely have some favorites in Greensboro: Elm Street, Oak Ridge, and Eugene Street. Also, if you don’t mind rummaging through bins, the Goodwill on Eugene Street has a back room where they sell everything by the pound, so you can get trash bags full of clothes for under $10.

Triad Goodwill helps support people in need by providing them with education and job training to help better set them up for success in the future.

Pro Tip: If you’re looking to shop at a Goodwill in the Triad area, Tuesday’s are $0.99 tag sale day!

3.
Bargain Box
Love love love this place. Items are individually priced, so some items can be a little more pricy then other thrift stores. BUT twice a year they have a massive blowout sale where you can fill a bag for $10 and sometimes even just $5! They also sell some nicer labels and brands here, so if you’re looking for something specific, you’re more likely to find it here.

Bargain Box is run by The Junior League of Greensboro, an organization of women committed to develop female leaders who create lasting impact in their communities.

Pro Tip: If you’re a student or teacher, bring your school ID on Saturdays and get 20% off your entire purchase!

2. Salvation Army
Shop here. It’s not just a thrift store but an international movement to help share the Gospel by meeting local needs. Andrew and I have been able to visits locations in Iceland and Nashville and haven’t been disappointed.

Pro Tip: I usually hit the jeans section first, and I’ve found some of my favorite high waisted dress pants here.

1.
Freedom House Thrift
I started going here after my sister recommended it. It’s super cute and they have markdowns on tags (usually around 25% off) for the chosen color for that week. With two locations (Wendover and Battleground) I find myself shopping at the Battleground location more often because its close to Trader Joe’s :P

Freedom House Thrift offers help to single mothers recovering from addiction while allowing mothers and children to stay together.

Pro Tip: I find more name-brand clothes here (Anthropologie, GAP, etc.) than any of the other Greensboro thrift stores.

These are just a few of my favorite thrift stores. Let me know if there are any others I should know about or if you have any pro tips fun facts to share!
